Vacation 2009 part 1

This summer, Ragnar and I decided to leave the Norwegian summer and go south, to where winter reigns - South Africa and Mozambique. Johannesburg is known to have rather cold winters, but I guess I wasn't expecting temperatures below zero. We stayed at a backpackers' place in Kensington, and spent the two days in South Africa in the cool neighbourhood of Melville and in a mall. We did also go to a market and check out the local goods, but we spent more time inside a huge mall. I know this sounds very strange, but the main reason for this is of course the new Harry Potter movie. We got tickets on the opening day, and the cinema was only half full! It was quite surprising. I did enjoy the film - not a great surprise there - but it left me wanting more. Can't wait for the next two films :)

We flew from Johannesburg to Maputo, and this is a city which is very easy to like. It has a small town feeling, friendly athmosphere and a nicer climate. We still need to wear our sweaters, but it's nice and warm in the sun. So far we've walked along the beach, had seafood at the legendary Costa do sol restaurant, sampled the local beer, visited restaurants and bars in a local fair and walked around town.

Some pictures of our trip so far:
